by Linda Lantieri

What's the most important piece of your child's educational program? If you think it's math, science, or grammar, you might be overlooking an element that is fast becoming essential in today's stressful world: cultivating inner resiliency. In Building Emotional Intelligence, pioneering educator Linda Lantieri joins forces with internationally renowned psychologist Daniel Goleman to offer a breakthrough guide for helping children quiet their minds, calm their bodies, and identify and manage their emotions. Now available to the public for the first time, here are Lantieri's proven techniques arranged according to age group, complemented by a spoken-word CD with exercises presented by Goleman. "We need a new vision of education that includes the mind and the heart," says Lantieri. With Building Emotional Intelligence, parents, teachers, and caregivers have the tools necessary to help build these invaluable skills in the children they raise.

Schools with Spirit: Nurturing the Inner Lives of Children and Teachers
edited by Linda Lantieri

Reviewed by S. Tamborro, Upton, MA
Linda Lantieri has done it again. A book that all educators must read, I am only about half way into it. I like it even better than Waging Peace in Our Schools. I have worked with Linda Lantieri and I can hear her voice. She is one of the most spirited people that I know. I needed to read this book when I did. It helped me to do the inner work that we as teachers need to do. Just last week I was asked are leprechauns real? I talked about legends with this child, as a story being handed down from previous generations. Are these stories real or imagined? Thank you Linda and everyone else who contributed to Schools with Spirit.

Waging Peace
In Our Schools

by Linda Lantieri
and Janet Patti

The most prominent activists working in the fields of conflict resolution and emotional literacy argue that schools--as our children's last common public institution in a fractured time--must educate the heart as well as the mind.
Linda Lantieri and Janet Patti show us how it can be done. They draw on the latest research in social and emotional learning, as well as on their years of experience with thousands of kids and teachers through the Resolving Conflict Creatively Program--one of the largest and most successful of its kind in the country, serving over 150,000 children in more than 325 schools nationwide. Waging Peace in Our Schools is news from the front--the essential primer on a movement that is transforming our schools.
The book is a practical guide, filled with stories, voices, ideas, and advice. We see teachers using innovative techniques to create "peaceable classrooms," student mediators who are changing the lives of their schools, and the core curricula of conflict resolution and diversity education.

"Waging Peace in Our Schools is a model of emotional intelligence. . . . I hope that every teacher and parent reads this, and takes this superb advice to heart."
Daniel Goleman
